“‘I’m kind of a foxhole Christian. You know, somebody who only talks to God when things get really bad. Oh, I used to pray every day, and things worked out for me. Then, I stopped praying, and guess what? Things still worked out. So, what’s the point, man?

‘I grew up going to my dad’s church — he was an Episcopal priest — but I don’t believe that stuff anymore. Dad died when I was a teenager, then Mom died a few years later.
